EXIT: 2014
* Investment Date & Round, Invested in Seed round in 2014
* Initial Premoney Valuation $2.2M * Acquisition: Bio-Techne in March 2016 * Exit Valuation: $15M * Return Multiple: ~4.4x Proteins carry out virtually all critical cell functions, and the proteome is the complete set of proteins produced by cells. Cell by cell variations in the protein levels are important data points for understanding cell function in health and dysfunction in disease.
Zephyrus Biosciences, born in the lab of Bioengineering Professor Amy E. Herr of UC Berkeley, built an instrument system for accessing and analyzing proteomic information at the single cell level. With the Zephyrus System, researchers were able to readily measure thousands of different protein components in thousands of distinct cells. A trove of millions of data points was made available along with analysis software giving researchers unprecedented insight into molecular systems critical to cell differentiation in health and in disease. Bio-Techne (TECH) bought the company and released the hugely successful product, Milo, now used by thousands of biomedical researchers worldwide. Gary Zweiger served as Chief Business Development Officer for its first year. |
