Joseph Kemp, JD, MBA

Joseph is currently a second-year law school and soon to be first-year MBA student from New York City and Los Angeles. He is also pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship with the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Joseph earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from John Jay College (CUNY) in 2017. Before starting law school, Joseph was a nonprofit leader; procurement assistant; Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) Law Fellow at a corporate law firm in New York; and a public sector leader, where he helped secure funds for entrepreneurial education and financing for public housing residents to start service-based businesses. At Michigan Law, he is currently the President of the Society for Space Law, Social Chair of the Entrepreneurship & Law Association, Co-chair of the Black Law Students Association, and a Senior Editor of the Michigan Business & Entrepreneurial Law Review. Joseph spent last summer at Fidelity Investments in Boston, where he supported the IP, asset management (~$3 trillion AUM, ~$8 trillion AUA), M&A, employment, and litigation departments. He also worked on legal projects for Fidelity’s corporate venture arm, F-Prime Capital, which has ~$2 billion in AUM for investments in healthcare and technology companies.
Coalescing his personal interests in technology and riveting experiences engaging in small-scale entrepreneurship as a teenager, Joseph is devoted to serving entrepreneurs and helping them make an impact on the world. In his free time, Joseph enjoys gastronomy, playing strategic video and board games, mentoring, and keeping up to date on contemporary and future innovation.
