Swami Raote is a global business leader with over three decades of experience in P&L, strategy and innovation at Johnson & Johnson. His J&J roles include Worldwide President Vision Care, Area Vice President, Medical Devices North Asia, Vice President Ethicon Asia Pacific, Area Managing Director, ASEAN & India, President & Managing Director Mumbai, India.
In his most recent position as Worldwide President Vision Care, Swami oversaw an integrated US $3.6B business with 5,000 employees worldwide. Simultaneously Swami was responsible for embedding a digital & data science culture across the J&J family of companies. During his four-year tenure as the Worldwide President, Vision Care – Johnson &Johnson, Swami drove end-to-end digital transformation across Vision Care operations, including innovative business models in US, Japan, China, and critical European markets. This led to a global E2E Digital Lighthouse recognition by McKinsey in January 2020. Since 2019, Swami has also been charged with responsibility for embedding a digital & data science culture across the J&J family of companies.
Swami’s 30 year career with J&J spans multi-geography, multi-culture, multi-functional experience in fast-moving consumer goods, OTC’s, Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals. The diversity of perspective has helped him achieve success across a broad variety of business challenges.
He received his bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Pune University, India and his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. He has participated in numerous executive development programs at Harvard and Wharton. He speaks five languages and is a cricket enthusiast.
