Originally from Dubai, Omair is a master’s student at Queen’s University who is passionate about the intersection of investments, life science, and technology. His exposure to Toronto’s vibrant start-up ecosystem during his undergraduate studies in Genetics developed a desire to drive innovation in the life sciences as an investor.
Omair is currently a Private Equity Analyst at CPS Capital, a Lower Middle Market Private Equity firm, with a focus on acquisitions within the communications, media, and information technology verticals. Alongside his responsibilities at CPS Capital, he assists the first phase of the Mission from MaRS: Climate Action program which seeks to identify 10 of Canada’s top Cleantech Ventures. Also, he developed the Queen’s University Alternative Assets Fund’s first Data Analytics and Venture Capital arms as Chief Data Officer and Head of Ventures.
Before CPS Capital and his role at MaRS, he worked for the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan Investment Board focusing on driving internal innovation through applications in Emerging Technology. He has also held positions at McKinsey & Company, Ottawa’s largest Angel Investing group, a leadership role at a start-up focused on water sustainability and worked in a Genetics lab conducting research with CRISPR-Cas9.
He is currently pursuing a Masters in Management Analytics at Queen’s University.
Outside of work, Omair enjoys video games, working on his podcast and playing with his Frenchie. He is also a fanatical Toronto Raptors fan.
