Sope is a 2nd year medical student at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. While at Penn, he has combined his interests in medicine and tech by publishing multiple studies on machine learning approaches for the characterization of radiological images with the Radiology AI Lab of the Rhode Island Hospital and co-founding CHIIN, a non-profit leveraging mobile health technology to improve quality of care delivery by community health workers in rural parts of Africa. He has also served as a VP of entrepreneurship and ventures for Penn HealthX, a medical student organization dedicated to supporting students with interests at the intersections of medicine, business, and innovation.
Prior to medical school, he completed a degree in mechanical engineering at MIT, where he was a 4-year member of the track and field team and an undergraduate research assistant in the lab of Bob Langer creating gastroretentive large dose drug delivery devices. He also interned in research and development at medical devices companies including Ethicon and Boston Scientific. Sope is captivated by the potential of technological innovations to make a scalable impact in healthcare delivery and improve healthcare access around the world.
